Foundation Scripture: Proverbs 29:18, Isaiah 54:1-8

Sunday 19th January 2014

Proverbs 29: 18 KJV says, 'Where there is no vision, the people perish but he who keeps the law, happy is he.' Today, I want to share with you the vision of New Wine Church, where we have been, where we are and most importantly, where we are going.

Everything we do as a church is driven by our vision. Our vision is our picture of the future and it is our picture of the future that drives us and keeps us on track. Our vision is expressed on a number of distinct levels; on an individual, local, national and global level. On an individual level, it is our desire is to help individual discover, develop and deploy the gifts that God has placed within them, so they can be maximally effective in what God has called them to do. This finds expression in a number of outlets including, the New Life Programme, Membership classes, Believer's College, Leadership Training Programmes, Cell Group Network, Church Services, Events, Teams, and a variety of other Church Initiatives and Projects.

At a local level, we seek to bring about support and transformation. Again, there are a number of forums in which this takes expression: The Christmas Hamper Campaign has enabled us to donate over 24,000 Christmas Hampers to the underprivileged members of our local community. The Carers Award Dinner has recognised and celebrated the sacrifice and service of carers in our community and John Wilsons' Pantry initiative has provided dry goods for those in need and has provided on a fortnightly basis, breakfast for homeless and vulnerable in our community as well as spiritual support and emotional wellbeing. At this level we have also developed ecumenical relations and engaged with leaders of thought, members of the police service and engagement with the Royal Borough of Greenwich at various levels. We also represent black majority churches amongst the Ecumenical Borough Deans. At a National level we express our vision through a number of outlets including, the Career Builders Initiative, the Financial Empowerment Workshop, the Marriage Enrichment Ministry, Pastoral Counselling, Outreach to Prisons, TV Programmes, Live Services, On- Line Services , Radio Programmes, Ministry Visits, Winepress and also conferences and Seminars. On a global level, in addition to our online services, TV and Radio Programmes, we have a Lepers Colony and have undertaken mission trips and medical missions and have taken decisive action in relation to support and relief effort. Whether in the lives of individuals, in our local community or in South Africa, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, India, Haiti and disaster-hit regions across the globe, New Wine is touching lives and making a difference.

Our Mission Statement can be summarised as follows: We have a mandate from God to build men and women up in the Christian faith, equipping them with the word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, so they can be maximally effective in what God has called them to do. We are convinced that every person has a destiny to walk in - a destiny already concluded in the mind of God. And we are persuaded that the greatest fulfilment in life comes when we discover our destiny and walk in it. Therefore we disciple people to discover, develop and deploy the gifts, treasures and potential that God has placed within them for His own glory.

The current structure that we have had in place to support our London Church operations has been portfolio based, consisting of four portfolios, into which in excess of 30 teams operated. The portfolios were Administration, Events and Management, Business Support and Outreach, Support Services and Membership, Training and Development. This represents where we have been, but, you may ask, where are we going? Put shortly, we are going beyond where we have been. We are talking about enlargement. Whilst we retain the essence of our vision, our statement of faith and our mission statement, we recognise that God is calling us to Go Beyond. Hence it is our vision to reach more people and register greater impact at an individual, local, national and global level. In Isaiah 54: 2-3 (NLT) says, 'Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense! For you will soon be bursting at the seams. Your descendants will occupy other nations and resettle the ruined cities.' Out of this text we can extract two key themes which apply to us in this season: 'Enlarge' and 'Occupy'. We will enlarge our house and occupy other nations.

In terms of Enlargement, we have identified that this must take place on four distinct levels: Spiritual, Salvation, Financial and Numerical. In order to achieve spiritual enlargement for our members we will undertake teachings through a variety of channels, in Church Services, Leadership Meetings, Believer's College and Cell Groups. We will also establish Ministers in Training and School of Missions programmes as well as events and conferences and other discipleship initiatives designed to promote spiritual growth. Enlargement in terms of Salvation will see us expanding in outreach at all levels. It is our vision to see at least 10 souls saved and settled in church each month – this is achievable and we all have a part to play in realising this. In addition to tithes and offerings, we will venture into business initiatives which will generate income for the projects that we seek to progress. I encourage everyone however to be diligent about their tithing and their offerings. Our vision for numerical growth will see our weekly attendance re-built to 3000. Our strategy to secure enlargement is focused around Prayer. Every team and Cell Group has a part to play, as does publicity and social media. We will be intentional and deliberate about designing our operations to achieve this. Every team and every member will contribute to the effort for growth and I would ask you to accept as your personal responsibility to see just one person established in New Wine Church this year.

To fully understand our mandate to Occupy, it is important to recall the vision revealed to our founding Pastor, Dr Tayo Adeyemi in The Church I See: "The church I see is a missionary equipping and sending station where 52 weeks a year, missionaries are being sent out into the local community and to the uttermost parts of the earth with the saving power of Jesus Christ" The Occupy aspect of where we are going will focus on taking the ministry of New Wine beyond the four walls of Gateway House and therefore New Wine Church will be engaged church planting in London, Europe and beyond. New Wine Church at Gateway House remains the model and we will aspire to replicate the headquarters everywhere we are located. The culture, the values and the operations remain the same. This new initiative will create a flow that is perpetual - As we bring people in from our communities and disciple them, we will be sending them out in order to perpetuate growth. There is no limit to how far the ministry of New Wine will go! Timothy 3: 2-7 represents the qualities of leadership that we will look to for those who are called to go out and plant churches and be assured, there will be a rigorous programme of training and development that we would expect any leader to go through before being sent out.

In order to support and enable the enlargement and occupation that we anticipate, we have introduced a new tier of leadership, a cabinet which will oversee the strategic direction in which we are heading whilst portfolio leadership will enable the operational initiatives to continue to flourish. The Cabinet will consist of Minister David Adabale, whom will be responsible for Business Events and Missions, Minister Kola Taiwo whom will be responsible for Services and Minister Gbenga Ajanaku whom will lead Outreach and Development.

Putting 2014 in perspective, we will continue to undertake a wide range of initiatives, including the Christmas Hamper Campaign, John Wilson’s Pantry, Marriage Enrichment and Financial Empowerment workshops, pastoral counselling and outreach to prisons as well as engaging in civic and ecumenical relations. In addition to this, we intend to plant three churches this year; one in the UK, one in Europe and another in Africa. We have a number of exciting projects that we intend to progress, including the STAR Project, which we initiated in 2006. In the short term will see this building leased but in the long term radically redeveloped to become a multi-functional building offering further income generating opportunities for New Wine. We also have exciting plans to redevelop the Mitre building adjacent to Gateway House. Our immediate plan is develop the upper level to create more space for the Children’s Church with a comprehensive redevelopment of the site to meet our growing needs to follow thereafter. We have immediate plans to renovate the Path at Gateway House and undertake other additional refurbishment works throughout the building.

Habakkuk 2: 2 says, Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. And so there you have it: a picture of where we are going. I hope that you can locate yourself and where you fit into it the picture that has been unfolded. I hope also that you have a clearer understanding of what we mean by enlargement and also that you understand that all the skills, abilities, and giftings that God has deposited within you now need to be deployed for His Glory. We have committed to go beyond and we are confident of God’s blessing upon our endeavours which will make our vision a reality.
