Acts 7: 2 (NIV)

18th June - 24th June, 2018

To this he replied: ‘Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.

Last week, we meditated on the need to align ourselves with God’s Word in order to create room for our next level. Preparing for the next level is important because God is looking for vessels on the earth to carry out His assignments and fulfil His purposes. God uses willing vessels that He can divinely influence, to exercise His divine influence on the world.

Stephen was a deacon in the early Church, and he recounted to the Jews that the God of Glory had appeared to Father Abraham in Mesopotamia. There were many idols in the city where Abraham originally came from. So, how did he know who was God among the gods? Stephen gives us the answer, in that God distinguished Himself to Abraham as the “God of glory”. It was God’s glory that caught Abraham’s attention. I pray that you will always recognise the God of glory, and that He will have your full attention despite the distractions in this world.

Paul also describes God as the Father of glory in Ephesians 1: 17. And since we are God’s children, we are children of glory! When Paul describes God as the Father of glory, he prays, asking that the Lord would give us the Spirit of wisdom. Therefore, we see that this glory involves the Spirit of wisdom.

The Spirit of wisdom is demonstrated in Scripture as the Spirit of Jesus. In 1Corinthians 1: 22- 25, the Jews who wanted to see the demonstration of signs, and the Greeks who were seeking wisdom discounted Jesus’ death on the Cross as being weak and foolish. However, for those whose eyes are open to the grace of God, Jesus is indeed the wisdom and power of God.

In Philippians 1: 19, Paul talks about his assurance and conviction that his deliverance would certainly come, through prayer and the Spirit of Jesus. This Scripture provides us the assurance that we need when we are facing difficulties. No matter how challenging the situation is, we can depend on the Spirit of Jesus to bring us out victorious. You may imagine that your situation is hopeless. Instead of giving up, I challenge you to pray for the supply of the Spirit of wisdom. When God speaks His wisdom to you concerning a situation, you can apply that piece of divine wisdom and rest in God’s faithfulness for a positive outcome that will bring glory to God.

1John 3: 8b tells us that the grand purpose for which Jesus was made manifest in human flesh was to destroy the works of the devil. Since the manifestation of the Spirit of Jesus already destroyed the works of the devil at the Cross when Jesus died and rose again, this same manifestation of Jesus will destroy every attempt of the devil in your life today.

Prayer is about patience and faith (Hebrews 6: 12), and as we patiently stay in faith, we must keep our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12: 2). Romans 10: 12 assures us that God richly blesses those who call upon His name. The first time the Bible records that people began to call upon the name of the Lord was when Enosh was born (Genesis 4: 26). The name “Enosh” depicts weakness and mortality. It therefore shows us that when we acknowledge our weaknesses before God and depend on His strength and His supply of wisdom, we begin to operate in His divine strength.

Since God is the Father of glory, we are children of glory, and we can depend on His strength when we are weak...!

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, Y1ou are indeed the God of glory, and I am privileged to be Your child. I thank You for Your love and faithfulness, and for reassuring me with Your Word. I ask for the Spirit of wisdom to be made manifest in every difficulty that I am currently dealing with, so that I may walk in Your wisdom and experience Your victory. I acknowledge that I am nothing without You Lord, and I thank You that You are my sufficiency, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
