Genesis 1: 26 27 (NIV)

11th June - 17th June, 2018

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Last week, we meditated on the need to align ourselves with God’s Word in order to create room for our next level. Preparing for the next level is important because God is looking for vessels on the earth to carry out His assignments and fulfil His purposes. God uses willing vessels that He can divinely influence, to exercise His divine influence on the world.

Our main Scripture reading narrates God’s decision to make humankind and establishes the purpose for which God made us. Earlier on in Genesis 1 which narrates the story of creation, we see that God had a pattern of addressing the source from which He intended create a thing. For instance, when God wanted to create water creatures, he spoke to the water, and when He wanted to create land animals, he spoke to land. However, when God decided to create humankind (you and I), He spoke to Himself! This emphasises the truth that we are intentionally designed by God, in His image, for the purpose of exercising His divine influence.

When God decided to interact with Egypt before worldwide famine came upon the earth, He did so through a vessel called Joseph (Genesis 41: 3743). Similarly, if your home, children and the world around you would experience God, it has to be through you. God uses vessels that yield themselves to Him, and those whom He can infill with Himself (Genesis 41: 16). We must note that no matter how great the accomplishment is, the strength never comes from the vessel, but from God. Victory is never accomplished by might or power, but by the Spirit of God (Zechariah 4: 6, 2 Corinthians 4: 7, Ecclesiastes 9: 11).

Sometimes, the people around you may be oblivious to your gift until times of adversity. For Joseph, his brothers, Potiphar his slave-master and the jailer were oblivious to his gifts of interpretation and prophecy. However, at the appropriate time, because Joseph yielded himself to God, God unveiled Joseph’s qualities in a way that promoted him to become prime-minister of Egypt. Time is in God’s hands, and when we yield ourselves to Him, He will promote us at the appropriate time.

Being a vessel of divine influence means carrying God’s presence inside of us, and when people interact with us they experience the love and kindness of God. This is God’s call on the life of every believer (Matthew 5: 16). Consider your life as a composite whole of 6 parts God, person, family, ministry, finance and vocation. I challenge you to spend one day each week praying about each of these spheres and dedicating it to the Lord for Him to manifest His divine influence.

When we yield ourselves to God, He fills us with His love and grace that enable us to exercise His divine influence in our world…!

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word to me, and for loving me so much that You would be willing to use me despite my flaws. I submit myself to You today, and I ask that You fill me with your Spirit, a deep knowledge of Your love, and Your grace, so that I may exercise Your divine influence in my everyday life, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
